Igor Barel
After graduating from the SAA in October 2012, while working, and after more than twenty years in the furniture sector (with the family company BAREL, of which I was chairman, www.barel.it), at the end of 2012 I decided to resign in order to devote myself to sectors I considered more strategic.
Since 2014 I have been a partner of HIDROAUSTRAL, a company incorporated under Chilean law but made up entirely of Italian partners. Its business is building hydroelectric power plants in Chile; our majority partner is Scotta spa (www.scotta.it), which acts as general contractor. To date 3 plants have been completed and another 3 will be finished by 2018. When the works are complete, total energy production is estimated at 500 GWh/year.
Since 2015 I have been a partner and management consultant of the multi-utility EGEA of Alba (www.egea.it), working closely with Ing. Carini, CEO of the group, and with Ing. Cellino, CEO of Egea New Energy. The assignment is aimed at finding and assisting initiatives in renewable energy production in Italy, in particular in hydroelectric power and biomass. In March 2016 I organised for Egea in Ozegna (home to the first biogas plant in Italy upgraded to biomethane, owned by Egea) an event in collaboration with CNH Industrial on methane-powered engines for agricultural use. Since 2016 the consultancy mandate has been extended to the services offered by EGEA (electricity and gas supply, energy efficiency, public lighting, environmental services). The EGEA group closed the 2016 financial year with a value of production of 670,000,000 euros.
In 2014 we set up the farming company CASCINA ISOLA in Ceva, which produces wine.
On 1 January 2016, together with 2 other partners, I founded WL3D (www.wl3d.it) in Cuneo, an innovative technology start-up in 3D additive manufacturing, of which I am chairman. We currently sell, and are exclusive distributors for, some brands, and we are completing the development of our own printer. The technology is filament-based. A few months ago a collaboration began with the Merlo group (www.merlo.com), a manufacturer of telehandlers interested in developing 3D technology; our contact is the founder, Amilcare Merlo.
